School programme

Our curriculum adapted school programme

Back to now -
Let the pupils become Vikings for a day!

Have you, or are you about to, study the Viking Age at school? VikingaTider offers curriculum adapted educational programmes for school groups where a mix of theory, hands-on practice and playfulness is the key. Welcome to a different history lesson!

We would recommend you to start with our Travelling Viking option where we visit you, and then follow up with Viking for a day, visiting the museum. This will give you a solid foundation ahead of visiting us, allowing the pupils to learn as much as possible.

The landscape around Lödde å and Scania in general is home to much history which can be used to teach in various ways. Having the group read up on the history of the region around the open air museum VikingaTider may be a good start. The museum research group and friend association offers a wealth of material about Scanian history you may use.

Below you may read more about our school programme and the activities we offer you!

1. Chieftain's council

When the clan of Halvdan returns with inferior blades it causes disagreement among the clans. A council is called by the chieftain to figure out what really happened and who is to blame.

The pupils start the day being divided into two groups to learn about the laws, punishment, norms and etiquette of the Viking Age. After lunch the council begins and the pupils are divided into the five clans who have been called. Now it is time for debate, discussion and finger-pointing to determine who is to blame!
